Swallow Barn, Blindcrake
This project has in the local press and BBC Radio, the "eco-home" project has been undertaken by Day Cummins Limited director Stuart Woodall and involves the ecologically sustainable conversion of a previously derelict barn into an exemplary low-energy family dwelling.
The conversion uses environmentally sound building materials and construction methods, and incorporates innovative sustainable energy-saving systems such as micro-wind-turbine electricity generation and a ground source heat pump for hot water and heating. Situated within the Lake District National Park, the eco-friendly ethos extends to wildlife habitat promotion, including built-in bat roosts and a planted green roof. Winner of a Green Apple Award in 2007 for Environmental Design.
A Phase Two Extension to the barn is currently under construction during late 2009 to examine the affects of super insulated structures using traditional building techniques.

: Cockermouth architect Stuart Woodall has brought new meaning to the
phrase ‘taking work home’ by designing his house to be an eco showroom
for clients.
The 31-year-old bought a dilapidated former hearse house in Blindcrake
two years ago and has lovingly created a family home with impeccable
green credentials.
