Workington Community Hospital

Workington Community Hospital is a new-build PFI facility grouping healthcare services and general medical practices from the old infirmary and other health centres on a single town centre site, overlooking Vulcan’s Park. A technical college formerly occupied the site. The building is arranged around a series of landscaped courtyards to reduce corridor runs and maximise the amount of daylight available to interiors. The various parts of the hospital range from single storey to three storeys in height. Facing brick exteriors, tiled roofs and generous overhangs promote a traditional yet crisp image.

Day Cummins Limited were appointed as architects for this project, being involved in all aspects of design, room layout scheduling, and specification. We also provided party wall surveyor services and acted as CDM planning supervisors.
